Employee Spotlight: Kristie Blumenschein

This month, we shine the Employee Spotlight on Kristie Blumenschein, Geoforce’s esteemed General Counsel.

Read the Q&A below to learn more about her!

Q: What do you do at Geoforce?

A: As Geoforce’s General Counsel, I advise the company and its Board with regard to legal matters arising out of its operations worldwide. On a daily basis, this means getting in the trenches with management of the various departments to help identify risks and implement solutions (e.g. new forms, new policies and procedures, applicable training, etc.) so management can more easily and quickly achieve its goals and service our customers, while minimizing risk through a commercially reasonable approach to legal compliance and best practices.

This requires either providing advice directly or selecting and managing outside counsel to ensure the company gets the advice it needs on a variety of topics including compliance with US laws, state laws, and the laws in each jurisdiction where we engage in business relating to the following types of issues: corporate law compliance, private and government contracting requirements, employment matters, tax compliance, intellectual property protection, arbitration/litigation of disputes, securities regulation compliance (stock and financing matters), privacy protection compliance, real estate matters, and corporate best practices.

In short, it is my job to try and minimize the probability of legal disputes on a large variety of topics with a large variety of internal and external stakeholders.

Q: How long have you been with Geoforce?

A: Over two years now!

Q: What are your hobbies?

A: I have small children and therefore no longer remember what a hobby is. Occasionally I look at the sewing machine I received and remember there is something I would like to learn someday.

Q: If you could choose one song as your theme song, what would it be and why?

A: “What a Wonderful World”. I love discovering what awesome things Jesus has done.

Q: If you were stranded in an airport what would be your 3 must-haves?

A: A fun book about how to do something better, automatically refillable glass of alcohol, and a blankie as I am always cold.

Q: What is your favorite attribute of Geoforce?

A: Their treatment of employees as humans worthy of respect, dignity, space, independence, trust, and appreciation. It’s, frankly, kind of a rare quality.

Q: If you could have one super power, what would it be and why?

A: The ability to make executives obey my every whim… ‘Nuff said.

Q: What is your favorite part of Spring?

A: I actually don’t usually like Spring because of the infamous “Spring Forward (Daylight Savings) Day” that shall live in infamy. However, if I had to name a best part (and apparently I do) it would be the flowers and Easter.
