Employee Spotlight: Dan Schwendtner - Geoforce

Employee Spotlight: Dan Schwendtner

Can you afford to lose visibility of this cargo’s location? For an hour? For a day? For a week? Of course, we all know the answer already: losing visibility into critical assets can mean losing even more: money, time, productivity, safety, sanity…

This month, our Employee Spotlight is on Dan Schwendtner, an engineer with our hardware development team in our Bozeman, Montana office.

Q: How long have you been working with Geoforce?

A: I have been with Geoforce since September 2012, when Geoforce acquired Sypes Canyon Communications (so 4.5 years). Prior to the acquisition, I had been working for Sypes for approximately 1.5 years.

Q: What do you do at Geoforce?

A: My primary role is to design and maintain the automated test systems used in the production of our flagship GPS tracking device, the GT1 Global Asset Tracker.  I am a part of the Hardware Development team based in beautiful Bozeman, Montana. I work closely with the other engineers on our team, our Product Quality group, and our contract manufacturer (CM), to ensure we have adequate and repeatable test coverage at various points in the manufacturing process. I also maintain and improve both throughput and yield of our test systems to keep product flowing from production to inventory, and eventually to our customers’ hands. If production slows or stops on the manufacturing floor at our CM, I am generally the first person called to investigate, troubleshoot, and repair our test systems. What drives me each day is the desire to see our GT1 devices meet or exceed customer expectations.

Q: What are your hobbies?

A: In the winter I am an avid ice hockey player, goaltending in the local adult recreation league.  My wife and I enjoy going snowshoeing in the mountains around Bozeman as well. I have recently gotten into home automation and am working on several hobby projects to make our home more energy and cost efficient. I also enjoy reading or watching a good mystery or science fiction book, movie, or TV show.

Q: If you were stranded in an airport what would be your 3 must-haves?

A: Probably a pillow, a good book, and plenty of food. I am known for my frequent snacking.

Q: What is your favorite attribute of Geoforce?

A: Our can-do attitude and culture make Geoforce an amazing place to work. Making sure our customers receive the best possible product drives everyone to do their best each day.

Q: If you could have one super power, what would it be and why?

A: I think super speed would be a pretty awesome super power. Getting from place to place faster and saving some gas money seem like pretty awesome perks!

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

A: I would want to visit many of the national parks in Utah and the US Southwest.  There is something particularly unique and amazing about the geology and landscape there that fascinates me.
