Employee Spotlight: Bryan Urroz - Geoforce

Employee Spotlight: Bryan Urroz

Can you afford to lose visibility of this cargo’s location? For an hour? For a day? For a week? Of course, we all know the answer already: losing visibility into critical assets can mean losing even more: money, time, productivity, safety, sanity…

Ever wondered what it’s like working at Geoforce? We periodically like to interview and spotlight our employees, because we think they’re the best and we want everyone else to know that as well. So, go ahead and be jealous—it’s allowed. We promise not to tell your current employer you secretly vie working with us at Geoforce.

This month’s employee spotlight is on our Controller, Bryan Urroz.

Hi, Bryan. My name is Kendall Hazleton and I’m a marketing intern here at Geoforce. You have been selected for this month’s employee spotlight! I’ll start off with a couple softball questions and then ask a few others that are a bit more about yourself. Ready?

Kendall: How long have you been working with Geoforce?

Bryan: I have been with Geoforce for just about a year-and-a-half and it has absolutely flown by!

Kendall: What do you do at Geoforce?

Bryan: As the Controller, I manage the fantastic accounting “Dream Team.” They truly make my job so much easier. We handle all things accounting related, ranging from monthly invoices, to collections, to monthly reporting.

When companies become coveted customers, it’s because they’ve found a better, more manageable, way to track and trace their assets, equipment, and vehicles. They found that our hardened GPS tracking devices are often more rugged, durable, and dependable than many competing products. They’ve also learned that our Geoforce Track & Trace platform is top notch and provides fast, simple and, again, reliable, reporting and visibility. My job, is—in part—to forecast just how many people are going to “see the light” and become customers, which plays a part in the cross-channel work of logistics and inventory management. But more than that, we work with customers on their finance management options to find win-win situations that allow this whole magic carpet ride worthwhile.

Kendall: What are your hobbies outside of work?

Bryan: I do enjoy quite a bit of reading and spend a lot of time reading.

Once upon a time, I did used to ride a road bike, but nowadays I really enjoy playing basketball. However, despite the fact that I’m 6’ 5”, no, I can’t dunk.

Kendall: If you had to choose your last meal on Earth, what would you eat and why?

Bryan: Wow, there are a lot of good options, but I would have a hard time passing up a Chinese buffet as my last meal. Of course, you can’t forget some Sour Patch Kids for dessert.

Kendall: What is your favorite attribute of Geoforce and why?

Bryan: I really love working with everyone at Geoforce. The company culture is truly amazing. The overall office atmosphere and team cohesion across all departments makes coming to work enjoyable every day.

Although Geoforce is growing quite quickly, there is an appropriate balance between the “work-hard-play-hard” mentality. For example, just earlier this month, after a day-and-a-half of mind-bending office clean up and packing to move offices to these new awesome digs in Plano, we set up a make-shift ping-pong table with a desk and monitor for a net. Some 8 or more players were rotating in and out for about an hour, before we finally put it to bed to do some more packing. We also used a stress ball to show off pitching skills. Talk about using the stress relief ball to its full potential!

Kendall: What have you gained from working at Geoforce?

Bryan: Given that Geoforce is a small, but growing company, my time with the company has allowed me to be involved in different business activities, even outside of the accounting function and what I am most comfortable doing.

I have learned a great deal from the people around me. This multi-faceted exposure to various business activities has helped me to continue to develop both professionally and personally.

Kendall: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

Bryan: Interestingly enough, I don’t really have a strong desire to travel, as I tend to be quite the homebody. However, if I could choose any place in the world, I definitely would go to Urroz, Spain (and yes, it’s a real place).

Kendall: What is your favorite part about the Holiday season?

Bryan: I certainly enjoy spending time with family and friends. In addition to that, I appreciate the opportunity that the “season” brings to contemplate life, family and all that it encompasses.

We had a lot of fun getting to know more about Bryan this month. He has played a huge part in Geoforce’s success the past year and a half. We appreciate his hard work and dedication to the accounting team. We also appreciate his love for basketball and Sour Patch Kids! Stay tuned in the coming weeks for another great Employee Spotlight blog.
