ELD Self-Certification, Part III: FMCSA Certification is in Place!!!

Can you afford to lose visibility of this cargo’s location? For an hour? For a day? For a week? Of course, we all know the answer already: losing visibility into critical assets can mean losing even more: money, time, productivity, safety, sanity…

In a January blog titled “ELD Self-Certification, Part I: Is a Self-Test Really a Test?” we discussed the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) self-certification process for ELD providers and how our ELD solution provider was conspicuously absent from the FMCSA ELD registry.

In that blog, we mentioned concerns about the validity of self-certifying when key components of the ELD mandate had yet to be decided. We also discussed how our ELD solution would only register with the FMCSA when all outstanding questions were answered.

We noted our product actually exceeded all FMCSA requirements on requirements that had been settled. Last, we committed that the Geotab ELD solution would be listed on the FMCSA ELD Registry prior to the December 2017 implementation date.

In a February blog titled “ELD Self-Certification, Part II: What to Look for in an ELD Provider”, we discussed additional factors a conscientious fleet manager should consider equally important in their ELD provider. Namely, how long has that company been in business, does a referenceable customer base exist, what are the customer support levels, and would the vendor provide legal indemnification? In that blog, we reiterated our commitment to list our ELD solution on the FMCSA certification registry well ahead of the December implementation date.

Today, Geoforce makes good on that promise, as we are proud to announce our Geotab Electronic Logging Device is now officially registered as an FMCSA device! The Geotab ELD solution is also listed on the FMCSA Registered ELD list and their announcement can be found here.

Geoforce places a high premium on product quality and usability. Our ELD solution was developed with a meticulous attention to detail to ensure its compliance with the FMCSA’s ELD certification standards. Waiting until the FMCSA released its final requirements in August made our ELD solution all the better because we tested against the final requirements from the very beginning.

As the Geoforce product manager responsible for this product, I am thrilled we are able to offer this to our customers, and am confident it will keep customers compliant with FMCSA rules well into the future.
