Mike Abney

Chief Software Architect

Mike is a proven software development leader who has spent his career focused on delivering what was necessary to get the job done. As such, he has played numerous roles including programmer, UI designer, business analyst, instructor, project manager, and more. Similarly, he was worked both as a direct hire and consultant in multiple industries (financial, retail, travel, energy, and more) and varying environments (large corporate IT to small software product startups). A proponent and user of Agile and Lean values and principles for software development, he believes the first goal of software should be to provide value to those who use it. A published author, he co-wrote the book Streamlined Object Modeling, which focuses on teasing out the common analysis patterns across business domains, and provides a structure for converting those patterns into rules in software code.

At Geoforce, Mike is responsible for the evaluation of and decisions regarding software technologies. Additionally, he influences design and writing of Geoforce’s internal software. platform. Prior to Geoforce, Mike was a Vice President with Improving, a software consulting firm, where he both handled high-level consulting engagements and helped run a satellite office for the firm.

Mike holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the Texas A&M College of Engineering. When not working or spending time with his wife and two children, he may be found rehearsing with the other members of the Agile Music Project (a hobby rock band), writing code for fun, or playing Rocket League.
